Juno

“Dont judge a book by its cover,” or so they say.

I prematurely judged this movie by its cover. At first glance to its poster my thought was “Oh, it’s just another teen movie. Most probably a lame one,” . I am, well kinda, against these kind of motion pictures and I was sure that I was gonna waste 2 hours of my time watching it. But mercy me for I have wronged. Juno is the best piece i’ve watched in 2008.

First scene, there Juno is (starred Ellen Page), a 16 year old highschooler finding out that ‘her eggo is preggo’. Means, she’s pregnant. With her best friend’s baby (Bleeker, starred Michael Cera). Mais. Before we arrive at this scene, an animated sketch-mode clip of Juno walking drinking her litres of OJ convoying with Barry Louis Polisar’s All I Want Is you made me put my interest an inch closer to the movie. I immediately concluded that this movie’s gotta be a special piece, or at least the soundtrack is something else. Again, I have a thing for songs in movies, for me they’re essentials. So, there I was watching Juno being, still, just like another teen calls on her best friend (Leah, starred Olivia Thirlby) with her hamburger phone once she accepted the fact that she really is pregnant after having 3 different testpacks. They discuss which clinic to go to for Juno to have *sigh* – the abortion. As for the father, Juno gives him the notifications of her pregnancy the next morning in a very easy and casual way. And he responds in a likewise kind of way. The slight similar respond her parents have when she comes clean to them.

I was actually relieved that Juno cancels her clinic-appointment after she figured out that even babies have fingernails – some reason, huh?. So the real journey starts. Juno decides to give up the baby for adoption and finds a perfect couple to be her baby’s parents. The story gets more interesting, involving some sparkles between Juno and the adopting-father-to-be (Mark Loring, starred Jason Bateman) out of their similar likeness of music and movie. But this is not the love story this movie means to represent.

Juno and Bleeker are best friends. Boredom is the reason why Juno proposes an activity for them to do that leads later to Juno’s pregnancy. Bleeker has an obvious more-than-friends feeling for Juno, and so does Juno, but they’re just not on the same page to reveal each other’s feeling. This is the love story that this movie wants to represent.

And this is where I have to stop. I wont screw any more curiosity by continuing in writing every scene thoroughly. Although I cannot keep the fact that the ending is flawless to myself. It was pictured perfectly. Ellen Page’s and Michael Cera’s duet on Anyone Else But You had captured my mind in its melody eversince I heard it for the first time. It’s what made me rewatch this movie in 3 days.

You’re a part time lover and a full time friend
The monkey on your back is the latest trend
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train
I kiss you all starry eyed, my body’s swinging from side to side
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me
So why can’t, you forgive me?
I don’t see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

The soundtrack, it really is somethin’ else.
